Andrew Collinge may be a highly successful group of salons and schools, but at its heart it’s one big, extended family. This is something you cannot fail to appreciate when attending the annual Andrew Collinge Awards evening in Liverpool. The absolute support, love and appreciation each employee gives their peers is fantastic to see and experience.
Just sitting and watching the whoops of joy as each winner took to the stage to receive their award, (designed and produced by Ella, Andrew and Liz Collinge’s daughter-in-law,) was a joy. In fact, it is no surprise that top of the list of Andrew Collinge Values is a statement, which perfectly explains the ethos of the company: “Making people feel good about themselves. Giving people confidence and encouraging them to enjoy their time with us.”
At this year’s event at the Unity Theatre, Liverpool, UK, Andrew Collinge, and Managing Director, Charlie Collinge, welcomed their team and thanked them for their hard work and support. They went on to give the audience an insight into some of the excellent initiatives taken up by the team during the previous 12 months. This included supporting local charities, inter-salon competitions, a client-takeover on social media, reaching the finals of the British Hairdressing Awards and winning the prestigious Princess Royal Training Award.
As excitement mounted, the first award, the Creative Stylist Award was announced. During the day, team members prepped their model, cutting and colouring their hair, doing their make-up and styling a look that linked to their mood-boards.
The Creative Award was judged by Anthony Mascolo, Christel Lundqvist, TIGI Global Creative Technical Director, and Alex Barron-Hough, TIGI Photographer and Production Manager. Summing up the entrants’ work, Anthony said he was highly impressed by the creativity, techniques used and huge effort and emphasised how hard it was to select one winner.
Runner up was Joe Reynolds and winner of the Creative Stylist Award was Nicola Cunningham.
The Andrew Collinge Awards aren’t just about creativity however, they include every aspect of the business from education to junior stylists, receptionists, style directors, and a special Long Service Award that was given to Michelle Daley, who joins an illustrious number of employees, having worked for Andrew Collinge for 25 plus years.
One special award of the evening is the Hazel Collinge Award, given in memory of Andrew’s mother. Presented by Andrew’s sister, Sarah Collinge, the 2019 award went to Jordan Aspinall, manager of the Andrew Collinge Graduates Salon, (and former TIGI Inspirational Youth team member).
