The late autumn and early winter bring about a mood change. Subtle tonal changes of natural light, the sparkle of artificial lighting and the different textures of clothing, emerging fashion trends, and a change in people’s spirit, can all affect personal choice when it comes to selecting or updating hair colour.

TIGI European Technical Creative Director, Kerrie O’Reilly, is all too aware of how seasonal changes can affect clients’ colour goals. She explains: “As we move from autumn into winter, clients are wanting to shift away from the blondes and lighter shades we saw in the summer. However, that doesn’t necessarily have to mean taking their hair colour darker. A great way to update their look for the cooler months is to add shades of copper, gold and mahogany, which give hair extra warmth and richness.”

Kerrie shares the top 10 hair colour formulas for the winter season ahead, created by the TIGI International Technical Team, to inspire you and your clients over the coming months.

WINTER BARLEY

This is an ideal shade for clients wanting to enrich their deep blonde palette. Moving away from the golden or sandy barley shades of the summer, Winter Barley adds notes of copper and mahogany for extra warmth. Whether its applied as a global toning technique or freehand, this is a simply stunning shade that clients will love this season.

HIBISCUS

This shade is a wonderfully delicate autumn hue that’s great for softer skin tones. By infusing small amounts of mahogany to an iridescent palette, Hibiscus is a lovely way of creating a multidimensional result for different lights. In some lights it will be a beautifully soft and subtle shade, but as the light moves you will see hints of rose flickering through.

BUTTERSCOTCH

Butterscotch is a great shade for clients that want to stay on that beautifully platinum level of a 10. It’s a subtle tonal reflect that will gently soften any raw tones (caused by the sun), and adds an element of warmth to brighten up complexions heading into this chilly season. It’s enough to put a spring back in any step!

AMBER

Amber is a very welcome shade for the winter palette, as it brings Peach hues into the colder season. For clients that love metallic shades or are playful with rose gold toners, this shade is a great alternative to get them feeling brighter and more festive. And what’s more, it’s still on a light enough level for those ‘forever blondes’.
