Anthony interviews hairdressing 'royalty', Vivienne Mackinder, about her career and work with Vidal Sassoon.

Entering the hairdressing profession in the heady mid-70s Anthony Mascolo and Vivienne Mackinder had some parallel paths, both becoming editorial stylists early in their careers and being part of the exciting international growth of hairdressing shows.

While Anthony worked for his brothers, Vivienne left the London College of Fashion for a job at Vidal Sassoon, where she worked under the inspirational Annie Humphries and Christopher Brooker. After reaching the position of art director, she joined another Sassoon alumni, Trevor Sorbie. There, as his artistic director, she continued to grow as a session stylist, as well as working with Trevor on global shows and seminars.

Today she is often referred to as “industry royalty” and continues to inspire and elevate the hairdressing profession through HairDesignerTV.com (HDTV), a post-graduate training system enabling the working professional to advance their skills anywhere through online access. HairDesignerTV is a collection of online hairstyling tutorials that support individual hairstylists or entire salon teams, pursuing the highest level of professional excellence and mastery. Vivienne’s elite Designer Program and Salon Training are five-star training programs based on Vivienne’s long career history of expertise.

Vivienne has said “My biggest fear as a young stylist at Vidal Sassoon in London, was that a client would sit in my chair and ask me to do a style that I could not do. I think this fear has made me a life long learner! Forty-years later, I am still hungry to learn and be relevant in today’s fashion.”

Although Anthony may not have felt that same fear, his thirst to improve and learn has not dimmed over the years. This gives the pair a strong connection through their shared passion for hairdressing and education.
