The first virtual Alternative Hair Show aired across social media on Sunday 11th October with huge success. To date, it has reached over 250,000 views, and the numbers are still rising. In fact, only a few minutes into the show the Alternative Hair website crashed as thousands of people tried to view the show!

TIGI Founder, and Alternative Hair Global President, Anthony Mascolo, presented the virtual event from his own studio: The Library Space in Battersea, South London, together with Alternative Hair founder, Tony Rizzo and Linda Evans, PR for Alternative Hair.

International artistic teams, most of whom had appeared in previous live shows in London, created presentations in their own countries with their personal interpretation of the theme: IMAGINE. From fields and studios to salons and historical buildings, including the magnificent Duomo in Florence, the backdrops and work showed incredible creative attention to detail despite the close confines of today’s world.

THE 2020 PARTICIPATING ARTISTIC TEAMS WERE:

Sanrizz
Anne Veck
Beauty Underground
Carlo Bay
Dmitry Vinokurov
Gogen
Ken Zhou
Klaus Peter Ochs
Kohsuke Visual Network
Mikel Luzea
Robert Cromeans
Saco

Rudi Mostarda
Stevo Pavlovic

INTERNATIONAL VISIONARY AWARDS

The International Visionary Award finals, sponsored by TIGI, have become an increasingly important part of the event and, this year, the finalists each created their look and filmed their model as part of their entry. Judged by an international panel of top hairdressers, the winners were announced, live, over Zoom. It was great to see the response on the faces of this year’s winners:
Cut & Colour: Xavier Arcarons, Spain
Men’s: Carles Sanchez Congost, Spain
Avant-Garde: Eugene Low Wai Ket, Malaysia

CHARITY FUNDRAISING

Of course, Alternative Hair is about creativity, inspiration and entertainment but at its heart is fund-raising for Fighting Leukaemia, Blood Cancer UK and World Child Cancer. The audience was reminded throughout the show that even the smallest donation changes lives. With films and appeals, the show emphasised the ultimate goal of Alternative Hair: to find a cure to guarantee every person, suffering from blood cancer, survives.
