AWAKEN YOUR CREATIVITY WITH TIGI COPYRIGHT
In their latest editorial shoot, Gen Itoh and the TIGI Japan team show the creative possibilities of TIGI Copyright.
We’re excited to share these beautiful images, created by TIGI APAC Creative Director, Gen Itoh, together with TIGI VIP Toyko salon creative stylists: Sunao Akiyama from Rock Hairdesign and Ryo Ishiyama from Je Suis Heureuse. To celebrate the launch of TIGI Copyright in Japan, the team came together to showcase their hairdressing creativity and imagination for this photoshoot, recently published in Izanagi Magazine, and demonstrate the creative possibilities of the Copyright range.
Take a look behind the scenes and read on to discover how the team created each look. Gen also shares his insight into emerging hair trends in Japan.
AWAKEN YOUR CREATIVITY
Here’s how the team created each look using the full TIGI Copyright Care and Create range.

THE MODERN CROP
For the shoot Gen created two looks, inspired by two iconic women: Liza Minnelli and Cat Woman.
Liza Minnelli’s 70s look (look 1) was combined with a modern crop, whilst Batman’s Cat Woman, took on a modern feeling with multiple colour paints to create the style (look 2).
For the Liza Minnelli-inspired haircut, Gen used horizontal graduation, personalising the top, and cutting round, and then used scissor over comb to cut tightly into the sides and back to give an undercut.
TIGI Copyright Care products used:

- Texture Putty + Colour Lustre Oil – for hold and separation
- Maximum Hold Hairspray – for hold and finish.

HIGH SHINE ONE-LENGTH BOB
For his model, Sunao was inspired to create a wet look and shine effect to dry texture, on a one-length bob haircut.
TIGI Copyright Products used:
Look 1:
- Heat Protection Spray – on wet and dry hair.
- Texture Putty + Colour Lustre Oil – for texture and separation.
- Maximum Hold Hairspray – for hold and finish.
Look 2:
- Maximum Hold Hairspray – on the front area to create shape and shine
- Revitalising Dry Shampoo – to create the end texture.

CONTRASTING DISCONNECTED HAIRCUT
Ryo’s aim was to create definition with contrast and a strong base. He used disconnection, scissor over comb and layering to create the look.
TIGI Copyright Care Products used:
- Heat Protection Spray, Multi-Tasking Styling Cream and Texturising Salt Spray – applied on wet hair to create the base and texture.
- Creamy Finishing Wax – for shape and definition.
- Maximum Hold Hairspray – for hold and finish
WHAT ARE THE KEY HAIR TRENDS IN TOKYO?
Often a hot-bed for future trends, we asked Gen what evolving trends he has spotted in Tokyo.
“Shine is big! Using oil has become really popular throughout 2020 with girls wanting to create wet look effects. This relates back to ’90s trends and has been really kicking in this year for both boys and girls.
I’m seeing a lot of hairstyles being inspired by the ’90s, often centre partings and a natural wave created with irons. I’m also seeing some short internal cutting, but this is less popular than in Europe and the US because of the Japanese hair types.”
