THE COLOUR SERVICES CLIENTS ARE REQUESTING NOW

Fuse asks TIGI colour experts: what are clients requesting post-Lockdown?

The last few months have seen a topsy-turvy evolution as hairdressing salons across the globe have reopened and then in some cases been forced to close a few weeks later. From the initial days when staff were so booked they could hardly cope, to the quiet days and weeks that often followed after that first panic, we wanted to know what services clients have been requesting. Fuse spoke to TIGI colour experts, Christel Barron-Hough and Renee Valerie to find out more.

“When it comes to colour, there have been some interesting observations,” they explain. “Generally speaking, around the world, now clients have finally been able to get back to see their colourists, we are starting to see two very opposite trends emerging.” Here’s what they have spotted.

A TOTAL HAIR TRANSFORMATION

Firstly, a surprising number of clients have opted for a complete change. Popular choices include lighter and brighter blondes, such as all over pre-lighteners with pearl hues, bright Scandi tones on highlights, and pure white or cream hues on freehand painting techniques.

Looking at this desire and analysing the thought pattern behind the colour choices, it seems to be an emotional decision to bring lightness and positivity back into the clients’ day to day life, embracing the new and positive change from staying at home for so long.

EMBRACING NATURAL HAIR FOR LOW MAINTENANCE LOOKS

Secondly, we are seeing clients coming in with sometimes six-plus months’ worth of regrowth and sometimes when this is the case, the clients want to work with their natural hair colour to create softness. For a lot of clients, this has been a positive reset and they want to embrace their natural hair colour rather than trying to go against it.

This is an important choice for some clients as they are searching for a new low maintenance hair colour, partly because of the potential fear of another lockdown at the back of their minds.

INVESTING IN HAIR AND THE HAIRDRESSER

With these changes, how your clients view their hair maintenance schedule allows you the potential to change up the process of client rebooking. And in this case, more than ever before, we are seeing retailing potential stepping up to support our businesses.

Whether your salon is open or still, unfortunately, closed, TIGI Insider is a great way to help facilitate the retailing support for hairdressers (currently available in the USA only). It allows your clients to purchase from your individual online store and have the products shipped directly to their home address.

Clients want to support their hairdressers right now, but more importantly, retailing the right products will help your clients to protect their investment in their hair and truly be a walking advertisement for you!

Whichever way your clientele has swerved, we think we can all agree that the shutdowns have shown how important our industry is to support the community by uplifting the spirits of our clients and helping them cope with the immense stress of current times. It has also has shown just how professional we are, embracing our health and safety protocols and maintaining a safe environment for our clients and our staff.
