TIGI US Creative & Education Director, Philip Downing, is the (unofficial) king of curl. Not only does he have a fantastic set of curls himself, he also understands the importance of selecting the right product and technique to create beautifully defined curls, and enhanced natural movement.

Here, Philip shares his top tips for styling curly hair, how to use the right tools, and his product of choice.

PHILIP’S TOP TIPS: THE THREE-QUARTER RULE

Philip’s advice for controlling and enhancing curls? Don’t touch the hair until it’s almost dry.

He explains: “Try not to disturb the hair too much as you’re drying. I won’t touch the hair until it’s almost 75% dry. With curly hair, if you go in too heavy-handed or too early on, then the frizz and texture can get away from you. Let the product do its thing and dry into the hair, and when it’s about 75% dry, you can start to shake out the curl and get that desired end result.”

PRODUCT HERO: CURLS ROCK AMPLIFIER

Philip’s favourite product for achieving and enhancing curls and waves is TIGI Catwalk Curls Rock Amplifier, a cream-based formula with TIGI’s special technology.

It contains humidity protecting style-setting polymers which not only help to sculpt and define curls and waves, but also help to prevent frizz. So, you can enhance your clients’ natural texture, give long-lasting hold to their style, and control their look with a touchable finish. What’s not to love!
