MEN’S CUT TECHNIQUE: SWEPT BACK TEXTURE
For clients wanting a versatile look with length on top, Josh Mascolo demonstrates a statement-making cut.
This year many men have been embracing longer hair lengths as their time between appointments has been less frequent and more uncertain. Taken from the 2018 Bed Head for Men collection, Josh Mascolo demonstrates how to create a versatile look while keeping length on top.
The collection gives a selection of modern cuts designed to give men the freedom to express themselves in different ways to suit their mood. Here, a statement-making cut gives clients the flexibility to keep it long, loose and casual, or slicked back for a controlled, sophisticated look.

01. Prep the hair with Dense Up™ Style Building Shampoo, before applying Pure Texture™ Molding Paste as a cutting lotion.

02. To begin the cut place a delta section from recession to below the crown.

03. Working with diagonal back sections, remove weight, using a razor and cut square to the head-shape.

04. Note the change of hand position and repeat the same technique on the opposite side.

05. Moving to the top, place a profile part and radial, splitting the head from the front and back. Behind the radial, use point-cutting to reshape the layers square to the head shape.

06. To complete the layering at the back, over-direct all the sections to the centre.

07. Note the change of hand position and repeat the same technique on the opposite side.

08. In front of the ear, take a central vertical section. Using the guide from the back, point-cut from short to long. This maintains length at the front.

09. To complete layering, use vertical sections and over-direct everything to the stationary guide in the middle of the head.

10. Note the change of hand position and repeat the same technique on the opposite side.

11. Internally, comb the hair to the natural fall and reshape the perimeter using irregular point-cutting.

12. Use point-cutting through the comb to further detail the underneath area.

13. To build volume apply Press Up™ Body Building Styling Foam.

14. Rough dry the hair, then use a small paddle brush to smooth the cuticle and add height at the roots.

15. To finish the look, apply Matte Separation™ Workable Wax to give hold and texture.
