GET TO KNOW: PIERO
How did you start your career in hairdressing?
The Italian school summer holidays are almost 3 months so I started work in a small salon as a junior, at the age of 16. My parents wanted me to finish school but I fell in love with hairdressing so quit school and started my career.
What gives you inspiration?
Books by Bob Gruen or Mick Rock definitely give me inspiration. I’m sure many other hairdressers would find them inspiring too!
If you’re not working over a weekend, what would you be doing?
My favourite weekend would be going for a walk in Greenwich Park (London) with my family and taking the river boat from Greenwich Pier to the Tate Modern to see the latest exhibition. Travelling by boat though London on the River Thames fascinates me, especially when it gets darker. I love all the lights on the London buildings at night.
What’s your absolute favourite song?
‘I’ll Be Your Mirror’ by Nico & The Velvet Underground
Of all the haircuts you’ve created, which one is your favourite?
The one I’m most proud of is the cut I created for the 2015 TIGI Academy Collection. As a fan of basic shapes, a bob with a short fringe and interesting internal layers is a cut that defies the years and is always fresh.
