SS20 TRENDS: GET INSPIRED TO TALK FASHION TO YOUR CLIENTS
Maria Kovacs shares her trends forecast for the coming Spring/Summer season.
With the new Spring/Summer season just around the corner, we spoke with Maria Kovacs, TIGI European Session Director, about the new trends we should know.
When not developing education content and working backstage at London Fashion Week, Maria researches trends, looking at what’s going to hit the high streets and runways, so you can get ideas to talk fashion in the salon; inspiring your clients and, of course, giving them ideas to transform their look for the SS20 season.
There was never a better time for your clients to move their hairstyle forwards and embrace change. So here are Maria’s hot new trends to follow.
There’s always an element of fashion that takes you away from daily life and places you in your dreamy far-away place. Designers took reference from romantic safaris embracing the colour of the African plains, blue skies and perfect sunsets. Some took colour references from Indiana Jones and The Jewel of the Nile, or explored the lazy sunny haze of the hot tropics.
Urban women in particular are embracing a ‘less is more’ approach, wearing clean lines and loose silhouettes with relaxed tailoring. This look works well with a ‘no makeup’ makeup and clean, touchable hair worn with a ‘tuxedo parting’ and a tailored ponytail. It’s about looking effortless when effort is required.
Maria Kovacs, TIGI European Session Director, is often heard referring to hair ‘ as a fabric;’ so there’s no surprise she sees art as more than just inspiration and loves the mood for art as fashion. “Art is static,” she says, “But hair is moveable and touchable. My vision for the coming season is creating your own blank canvas everyday, choosing your own colour palette and becoming your own work of art.”
Sustainability is a word on everyone’s lips these days and with more and more people going down the mindful route when it comes to their lifestyle, beauty products and hair, it’s no wonder that one hot trend steps back in time taking inspiration from a vintage vibe with fresh new textures and colours. Designers and fashion renegades have taken to upcycling and recycling dipping into family heirlooms and making ‘everything old, new again’.
Maria says: “I get so excited when the new season’s fashions start appearing. Firstly, you can see how to update your current look, tweaking your cut and style, and looking at the new seasonal colour palettes. But it’s also about taking stock of the products you use on your hair, as sometimes it can be as simple as using a different styling and finishing product and you completely refresh your style.
Equally when it comes to clothes, it’s not always about buying a complete new wardrobe! Just adding accessories or changing around the way you wear something can update an outfit. Clients today will be looking at social media and magazines for information on fashion, beauty and make–up trends, so it’s important that hairdressers are well-informed. Get confident in opening the conversation with your clients, so you become their trend advisor. They’ll love to talk about their ideas and appreciate your help.”
