As we enter the new Spring/Summer season, we spoke with Christel Barron-Hough, TIGI Global Creative Technical Director, and Renee Valerie, TIGI US Technical Education Director, to discover the key colour trends that will be inspiring both you and your clients over the coming months.
From soft shades to creative tones, these are their top colour trends for the season.
Art is more than just inspiration. We love the link of LIVING ART to give a new mood to fashion. Art is static but hair is moveable and touchable. Our vision for this season is to create your own blank canvas everyday, choosing your own colour palette and becoming your own work of art. This starting point for this trend is bold shades of Flame Scarlet, Biscay Green and the 2020 Pantone Colour of the Year, Classic Blue.
Urban women in particular are embracing a ‘less is more’ approach, wearing clean lines and loose silhouettes with relaxed tailoring. It’s about looking effortless when effort is required but embracing a relaxed, luxurious feeling. Unsurprisingly the tones for this trend are muted and soft, such as Hazelnut and Lark.
For this we take reference from romantic safaris embracing the colour of the African plains, blue skies and perfect sunsets. Colour references are taken from Indiana Jones and The Jewel of the Nile, as well as exploring the lazy sunny haze of the hot tropics with colours such as Zinnia and Orange Peel perfectly encapsulating hot tropical sunsets.
Hair is inspirational to a colourist in the same way that fabric is to a fashion designer. Thinking in this mode, INSIDE OUT explores the lightest textures with ultra pallid tones that inspire creativity through delicate shades and fine techniques. Fluid forms emphasise the tones, taking the colour artist to an ethereal level.
Looking forward and looking back and finding balance is what makes up the TIME MACHINE. Never have we desired to take ourselves into calmer zones and comfortable places than right now.
Time Machine embraces cool tones such as Valerian and Silver Birch to emphasise femininity. Tones of grape, ruby red and deep blues add contrast and depth.
Christel and Renee share their favourite colour formulations for the Spring/Summer season.
