If you’ve not already heard of Ky Wilson, you soon will. At just 30 years old, he already has a number of hairdressing awards under his belt, not to mention two award-winning salons, The Social, based in East London and in his home town of Kendal in The Lake District, North-West England. His creativity and passion have pushed his career, not only as a salon owner but also in session hair, where he has worked with leading photographers, magazines, musicians and fashion brands.
When Ky Wilson met TIGI photographer Alex Barron-Hough back in 2012 they were mutually impressed by the other person’s creative ideas. Move forwards six years and both men have become highly respected in their own fields as hairdresser and photographer respectively.
Meeting again they talk about changing the industry, imagery, inspiration and sharing ideas and working collaboratively. The pair’s vision translates organically into a series of images that make up a hair collection, shot over a weekend, and involving a group of people working for themselves, but as a team.
From the collaboration with Fuse, Wilson creates a hair collection that merges a range of styles, techniques and inspiration, from braids to bridal, classic to men’s, commercial to editorial.
On shooting Wilson’s latest hair collection, photographer Alex, said “This collaboration for Fuse was both creatively inspiring and enjoyable. Ky Wilson was a great person to work with and his energy, creativity and drive really resonated with me. There was a great team spirit to the day, with everyone involved taking the opportunity to work collectively, pushing their own ideas.”
After the shoot, Barron-Hough returns to The Social to talk collaborations, and sharing ideas and information through the medium of Fuse.
