Based at the TIGI Academy in London, Piero Gentile works closely with TIGI salons in the UK and Europe and regularly leads education seminars. As a key member of the TIGI Creative Team, Piero contributes in all major education collections, hair shows, and TIGI events.
Piero takes his inspiration from art and, as a member of the Tate gallery, he attends as many exhibitions as he can. He is also a big fan of modern architecture and has a passion for food and cooking.
The Italian school summer holidays are almost 3 months so I started work in a small salon as a junior, at the age of 16. My parents wanted me to finish school but I fell in love with hairdressing so quit school and started my career.
Books by Bob Gruen or Mick Rock definitely give me inspiration. I’m sure many other hairdressers would find them inspiring too!
My favourite weekend would be going for a walk in Greenwich Park (London) with my family and taking the river boat from Greenwich Pier to the Tate Modern to see the latest exhibition. Travelling by boat though London on the River Thames fascinates me, especially when it gets darker. I love all the lights on the London buildings at night.

The one I’m most proud of is the cut I created for the 2015 TIGI Academy Collection. As a fan of basic shapes, a bob with a short fringe and interesting internal layers is a cut that defies the years and is always fresh.
