Like women all over the world, TIGI employee, Birgit was longing to see her hairdresser, Gianni D’Assero, and this week, with salons across Germany able to re-open, Birgit was finally able to get her hair cut and coloured. We asked her to tell us about her appointment experience, describing how she felt and what was different about the new salon journey.
“After 10 weeks of waiting for the day to finally get my hair cut and most of all, coloured, I have to admit I was a bit nervous when I arrived at the salon door, put on my mask, and entered” says Birgit.
“However, the Fille et Garcon team in Stuttgart did a fantastic job, making me feel as comfortable and safe as I could possibly feel in these awkward times.
There was a friendly greeting from behind a brand-new plexiglass shield, clear instructions of what to do and in which order:
1. Hang up your coat
2. Disinfect your hands at a kind of ‘information station’
3. Complete a client tracking sheet (in case of potential COVID-19 contact during your visit)
4. And then, the invitation to take a seat and enjoy your masked reflection in the mirror.”
“At all times I was required to maintain a distance from both seated ‘neighbours’ of approximately 2 metres. Looking around, I noticed that disinfecting actions were constantly going on all over the salon, especially at the workstations, the wash basins and the entrance area.
My colour application was done as usual. The only part that was difficult was around the ears. This was because the rubber bands on the side of the mask were in the way. There was the same issue with the cut too, but Gianni managed to work around it.
I strongly recommend that anyone having a colour service should use a disposable mask, rather than your favourite hand-made one. But in case a replacement mask is needed, Gianni had disposable masks available for purchase.
I was really impressed at the high quality of training the salon team had obviously received. Everyone knew what to do, respecting the strict rules. In fact they all moved with great ease and made every client feel good, despite the awkward mask on everyone’s face.
At the end of my appointment I was super happy with my hair colour and cut, and I have to say I felt very safe for the entire stay at the salon. However, I really missed the social part of my salon visit…. the hugs, the kisses, the constant chattering, the laughing and the facial expressions. It is a voyage more than a journey, the focus is on safety rather than a wellness experience, and it was clearly taken seriously. I was very satisfied with the entire experience, but I am looking forward to going back to the ‘pre-crisis-style’ salon visits soon!”
Thank you to Birgit for sharing your salon visit. The description of her appointment should show you that with careful planning, a high standard of cleanliness and sanitisation, and the same great service you always give, your clients will be grateful and happy. It’s time to get organised!
