Monoi oil is an infused perfume oil made from soaking the petals of Tahitian gardenias (best known as Tiare flowers) in coconut oil. Monoi (pronounced Mah-noy) is an ancient Tahitian word, meaning ‘scented oil’ in the Reo-Maohi language. Monoi is widely used among French Polynesians as a skin and hair softener, but is also popular in Europe and gaining recognition in the United States.
Monoi oil is only produced in Tahiti, Polynesia. It’s highly beneficial for both the skin and hair, possessing impressive nourishing and smoothing properties which help to repair past damage and prevent further damage. It’s created by pressing the flesh of natural coconuts to obtain pure extra virgin coconut oil, and then soaking the Tiare flower for approximately a month. The Tiare flower has a wonderfully sweet fragrance that is commonly used in beauty products.
Although it has gained popularity in recent years, and become a beauty staple in many bathroom cabinets, the much-loved coconut oil is believed to be the first plant oil ever used by mankind. Derived from the flesh of the mature fruits of coconut trees, it has a thick, white, semi-solid consistency which needs to be slightly warmed before application on skin or hair. Coconut oil is known for its conditioning properties so helps to nourish dry hair, add lustre and shine, and smooth to aid manageability.
Taurine is an amino acid derivative that can be produced naturally by the body. When applied to the root, taurine has been found to promote hair ‘survival’ and protection of the follicle.
The conditioning complex within TIGI Copyright Colour contains three key ingredients: fatty alcohol, surfactant and xylitol. As hair colour is applied, this conditioning complex helps to lubricate the hair fibres, making the hair easy to manage during the application process. The complex then disperses during rinsing to help reduce friction on the fibre, providing protection when the hair is most vulnerable.
Beeswax has long been used in hair and beauty products as it has the ability to perform a barrier on the skin, acting as a wonderful emollient and providing softening effects. It is natural and safe to use on both the hair and the scalp, and is most commonly used in styling products to help create and structure styles with high shine. It works like glazing, improving colour reflection and vibrancy.
Meadowfoam is a native plant adapted to vernal pools of the Pacific Northwest. It consists of a long chain of fatty acids, great for its amazing moisturising and rejuvenating capabilities. What’s more, it gives colour a rich and multi-dimensional effect, and adds a natural lustre to hair.
